A Fort Worth woman, identified only as Kathy, is alleging a sophisticated scheme orchestrated by a local solar panel salesman, Cartaveion Demarcus Holmon, leaving her financially devastated and facing the potential loss of her home.
Deceptive sales tactics and mounting debt
What began as a seemingly straightforward investment in residential solar panels has spiraled into a nightmare for Kathy, a retired dishwasher with a learning disability. She initially invested $60,000, only to discover the panels never functioned. Holmon, operating under the name Holmon’s Solar LLC, stepped in, initially attempting to resolve the issue – a move that quickly devolved into a tangled web of fraudulent activity.
Kathy recounts being pressured to authorize multiple payments of $1,500 to a sales representative, believing Holmon was assisting her with credit repair. She allowed him access to her home, a decision she now deeply regrets. “I thought he was helping me,” she stated, her voice laced with distress. But this assistance morphed into a systematic exploitation, with Holmon allegedly placing her name on a string of debts – RV loans, credit card bills, and four vehicles she doesn't even know how to drive.
A cascade of financial ruin
The situation escalated rapidly. Kathy estimates she was swindled out of over $150,000, including the value of her home. A lien was placed on the property she’d owned for 25 years, bringing her dangerously close to defaulting on her $51,600 mortgage – a mere $6,000 separating her from foreclosure. Her credit score plummeted to the red, making it nearly impossible to secure an apartment, forcing her and her Vietnam veteran husband to accept a precarious living situation.
Authorities investigating potential elderly exploitation
Fort Worth Police have arrested Holmon on charges of exploiting an elderly person. They’ve identified four other victims linked to his operation, and believe the total number could be significantly higher. Holmon’s Facebook profile reveals a past as a first responder and involvement with a local church’s worship team – a jarring juxtaposition to the alleged crimes.
