Latvia pledges 150,000 euros for riga conference on global security

Latvia's Ministry of Defence has announced a significant financial contribution of over 150,000 euros towards staging this year's Riga Conference on global geopolitics and transatlantic cooperation.

The Defence Ministry will match the 75,500 euro funding provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bringing the total public expenditure to over 150,000 euros. This hefty sum will be part of Latvia's planned 4.9% of GDP defence spending this year.

According to Defence Minister Andris Sprūds, the conference serves as an important platform for expressing Latvia's foreign policy and defence interests on the international stage. 'This conference is an instrument for strengthening Latvia's authority in the global arena,' Sprūds claimed, 'and provides a practical setting for finding solutions to the challenges posed by current global instability, alongside our allies.'

This year's event, scheduled for September 10-11 in Rīga, will focus on pressing international and regional security issues, with a Business Forum also on the agenda. Since its inaugural edition in 2006, the Riga Conference has established itself as an annual gathering of policymakers, military experts, diplomats, academics, journalists, and other influential figures.
