Unesco's yemen heritage revival empowers youth amid crisis

Despite more than a decade of turmoil, Yemen's cultural heritage remains a vital lifeline for communities and recovery efforts. UNESCO has made significant strides through its programs, reaching over 12 million people via cultural advocacy and assessing more than 21,000 heritage sites.

Concrete progress on the ground

UNESCO's initiatives have led to tangible results. Over 900 historic buildings have been rehabilitated, including sites on the UNESCO List of World Heritage in Danger – the Old City of Sana'a, Old Walled City of Shibam, and Historic Town of Zabid. Additionally, five museums have been restored, including the Seiyun Palace Museum, thanks to funding from the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY).
