Inflation fears surge amid gas price shock
Consumer expectations for inflation over the next year have skyrocketed, with households anticipating a 9.4% surge in gas prices, according to a survey by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The report reveals that the median inflation expectation for the year ahead now stands at 3.4%, a significant jump from recent months.
Wage gains fail to ease price pressures
However, consumers remain pessimistic about their ability to offset rising costs through higher pay. The median expected wage growth rate fell 0.1 percentage point to 2.4%, reaching the lowest level since May 2021.

Business owners fear economic downturn
Small businesses, which employ nearly half of U.S. workers, now rank inflation as their top concern. A survey by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce shows that sentiment among these owners has turned increasingly pessimistic, with the chamber's confidence index falling to 67 from 72 in the previous quarter.
