California wildfires erupt amid heatwave, prompt evacuations

Two devastating wildfires broke out in southern California on Friday, spreading rapidly amid record-breaking heat and strong winds.

Thousands forced to flee as springs fire rages out of control

The Springs fire in Riverside County has grown to 3,500 acres, prompting local authorities to issue multiple evacuation orders. Flames are primarily burning in the surrounding state recreation area, with the fire creeping into Moreno Valley and threatening structures.

‘The wind is spreading the smoke, causing concern among residents in neighboring cities who can see and smell the fires from miles away,’ said Alex Izaguirre, a Cal Fire spokesperson.

Over 260 personnel, including two helicopters and 36 fire trucks, are battling the blaze, with containment at just 5% as of Friday evening.

A second, smaller fire in Los Angeles County's Acton area has also prompted evacuations, with the 260-acre Crown fire 25% contained by Friday afternoon.
