Europe's longest aspen tree found in estonia, surpassing previous record by over 4 meters

Scientists have discovered the longest common aspen in Europe, measuring 45.5 meters tall in Estonia's Nigula Nature Reserve.

The record-breaking tree surpasses the previous european mark by over four meters.

Two additional unusually tall aspens, 44.8 and 43.7 meters, were found in the same protected area, topping Estonia's previous record.

Researchers from the Estonian Environment Agency, led by senior specialist Enn Pärt, used LiDAR maps and field measurements to confirm the trees' heights, which were then refined with specialized instruments providing 10-centimeter accuracy.

The tallest aspen, estimated to be around 110 years old, shows no signs of decay and is expected to continue growing.

Experts caution enthusiasts against seeking out record-breaking trees without proper guidance, due to conservation requirements and difficult terrain.
