Hazardous acid leak disrupts hamilton commercial site

At least 20 firefighters have descended upon a commercial site in Hamilton, New Zealand after a significant leak of sulphuric acid. The incident unfolded just before 5am local time when Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) received a hazardous substances alert.

Authorities mobilize four fire trucks and hazmat unit

FENZ Hamilton shift manager Paul Radden reported that approximately 400 liters of the corrosive acid had spilled at the Melville premises. Responding to the crisis, authorities deployed four fire trucks and Hamilton's HAZMAT unit to contain the leak.

Radden also indicated that the crews were seeking technical guidance from the Queensland Fire Department Scientific Branch, which specializes in providing expertise to emergency responders on unidentified hazardous materials.

As of this writing, FENZ has refrained from commenting on the status of personnel on site or whether the leak poses a threat to nearby residents or properties. Police and St John services confirmed notification but deemed their involvement unnecessary, deferring further queries to FENZ.
