At approximately 5:30 a.m., troopers responded to reports of a vehicle traveling the wrong way down State Road 836 near Northwest 107th Avenue, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Upon arrival, the trooper encountered the vehicle in the median and made contact with the female driver, FHP added. The woman then allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked the trooper, stabbing him.

In self-defense, the trooper fired his service weapon and struck the woman during the assault, according to the agency.

Both the trooper and the unidentified woman were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An ongoing investigation aims to clarify the circumstances leading to the violent confrontation.
