The Community Recreation Center on Kiely Boulevard was opened as a shelter, but many evacuees opted to arrange temporary housing independently.
A joint assessment by structural engineers from the developer, city engineers, and the condo's Homeowners Association (HOA) was completed Sunday. While engineers determined the building isn't facing immediate collapse, the north side requires shoring before residents can return. The affected portion’s re-occupancy is still under evaluation.
The city confirms the developer will bear responsibility for construction and repair costs. Firefighters are assisting residents in retrieving essential belongings, including pets and medication. Residents are urged to contact their insurance providers for assistance.

While the timeline for residents to return remains uncertain, the incident underscores the vulnerabilities inherent in aging structures and the urgent need for rigorous safety oversight. The assessment revealed a significant deterioration of the building's structural integrity, a reality that will undoubtedly impact the lives of those who call Villa Bella Home.
