Man convicted of murder for second time in flint homicide case

A Flint, Michigan man has been found guilty of murder for the second time after a new trial in a 2019 homicide case.

Prosecutors say dna evidence linked defendant to crime scene

Frederico Genaldo Simon, 64, was convicted of second-degree murder last week, four years after his initial conviction for the death of 67-year-old Dolphis Mitchell.

Prosecutors argued that DNA samples from a bloody hammer and pressure cooker found at the crime scene matched Simon's DNA, while Simon claimed he only discovered Mitchell's body and placed a pressure cooker lid on the kitchen counter.

According to the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office, Mitchell's sister and niece testified that they had gone to check on the elderly man and found him dead on the floor of his home with wounds to his head and body.

Simon fled to Texas after investigators contacted him for an interview, and phone records showed he was the last person to text Mitchell before his death.
