Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s capability to produce its missile and launcher, requiring partner contributions for components and critical elements like radars and sensors. He aimed for tangible progress by 2026-2027, citing past decades-long development timelines for other nations.

Civilian Casualties and Attacks
The Kyiv region observed a day of mourning following a Russian missile and drone attack that killed 17 people. Between January and June, the UN reported 1,396 civilian deaths and 7,978 injuries in Ukraine, a significant increase (37%) compared to the same period last year and a 114% jump over 2024, attributed to intensified long-range Russian aerial attacks.
Escalating Conflict and Rhetoric
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned both sides’ attacks on populated areas. Russia claims its strikes target military facilities, while Ukraine accuses Russia of indiscriminate attacks on civilians. A drone carrying explosives found near a Ukrainian aircraft at Leipzig Airport had a “ripped” detonator preventing an explosion. The incident involved a Ukrainian cargo plane loaded with military ammunition.
