David warner faces court after alleged drink-driving incident in sydney

Australia's former Test captain David Warner is set to appear in court next month after being charged with drink-driving following a roadside breath test in Sydney.

Warner, 39, allegedly returned 0.104 blood-alcohol reading

Police claim the 39-year-old cricketer, who has been playing for the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, stopped his van short of a breath-testing unit in Maroubra on Easter Sunday.

When approached by officers, Warner allegedly produced a reading of 0.104, more than twice the legal limit in Australia.

The former Sydney Thunder batsman was arrested and taken to Maroubra police station for further testing before being charged.

Warner's stint in the PSL follows a record-breaking season in the Big Bash League, where he averaged 86.6 for the Sydney Thunder and was named captain of the official team of the tournament.

The Thunder declined to comment on the incident.

Warner, one of Australia's most decorated cricketers, has not escaped controversy throughout his career, including a ball-tampering scandal in South Africa and an altercation with future England captain Joe Root at a Birmingham nightclub in 2013.

He will face Downing Centre local court in Sydney on May 7.
