FIFA has barred spectators from bringing in reusable water bottles to the 2026 World Cup stadiums due to safety concerns, a last-minute change to the governing body's fan code of conduct.

Spectators face heat with no refillable bottles allowed

The decision, announced just weeks before the 48-team tournament kicks off in the US, Canada, and Mexico, has raised eyebrows among fans who fear dehydration in temperatures often reaching the high 20s Celsius (mid-70s Fahrenheit).

FIFA cited the risk of injury from thrown bottles as the primary reason for the ban, despite allowing empty, transparent, reusable plastic containers earlier this year.

Other items like bottles, cups, jars, and cans are also prohibited inside the stadiums to prevent potential harm.

A FIFA spokesperson said the governing body is working closely with local authorities to mitigate the heat for fans, including setting up hydration stations, misting areas, and cooling tents around the stadium perimeters.

Inside the venues, FIFA assured that water bottle prices will remain consistent with other events held at the same stadiums.
