Electric school bus catches fire in roseville, prompting road closures

A fire broke out in an electric school bus parked behind Roseville High School on Friday evening, prompting road closures in the area.

Roseville Fire Department crews were dispatched around 6:20 p.m. after a passerby reported smoke emanating from the bus, which was stored in the school's lot when not in service. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke billowing from the vehicle and quickly assessed it as an electric bus powered by a lithium-ion battery.

Firefighters successfully contained the blaze to the single bus, preventing it from spreading to adjacent vehicles. However, the incident's unique dynamics and potential for re-ignition necessitated a prolonged response. Crews remain on the scene working to fully extinguish the fire.

The Roseville Police Department secured the bus yard perimeter as firefighters tackled the blaze. Berry Street was shut down between Reserve Street and Tiger Way, with authorities advising the public to avoid the area. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
