Kb foundation teens return from life-changing trip to south africa

Eight young women from the KB Foundation have returned to West Philadelphia after an unforgettable journey to Cape Town, South Africa. Their trip, orchestrated by founder Kirk Berry, aimed to broaden the students' horizons and inspire them to imagine their futures.

Wildlife, history and community service

During their two-week stay, the girls had the chance to witness lions in their natural habitat, visit Robben Island – the former prison of anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela – and immerse themselves in the local business world with a tour of PricewaterhouseCoopers.

However, the trip was about more than just sightseeing. The students also engaged in community service, donating shoes and food to less fortunate communities. 'It made us all feel more grateful for what we have,' one student reflected.

Even culinary adventures were part of their experience, as they tried local delicacies like caterpillars with peanut butter. 'We had caterpillars, termites,' one recalled, laughing.

The girls say the trip has changed their perspective on life, opening their eyes to new possibilities. 'Oh my God, there's no way I'm really in Africa,' one exclaimed during the trip.

Now back in Philadelphia, the KB Foundation is already planning its next initiative – a similar trip for a group of boys, with fundraising expected to begin soon.
